Ethik in der Schauweise der Wissenschaften vom Menschen und von der Gesellschaft
Ethik in der Schauweise der Wissenschaften vom Menschen und von der Gesellschaft is a book by German sociologist and economist Leopold von Wiese. First published in 1947 by A. Francke AG, it presents a simple way to think about ethics, dividing it into two main kinds: ethics of individuals and ethics of society.
The book brings together several of Wiese’s writings that are closely linked, including Gedanken über Menschlichkeit (Thoughts on Humanity, 1915) and Homo sum: Gedanken zu einer zusammenfassenden Anthropologie (I Am a Human: Thoughts toward a Concise Anthropology, 1940), alongside the main Ethik in der Schauweise der Wissenschaften vom Menschen und von der Gesellschaft.
Structure:
The work is divided into a general part and a specific part. The general part has eight chapters:
1) The word "ethics"
2) Methodological foundation
3) History of ideas, the foundation
4) Systematic foundation
5) Distinction from related display modes
6) Principles of individual ethics, including a discussion that is both emotive (pathetic) and, at times, unemotional
7) Broad social ethics
8) Imperatives
This overview outlines the main ideas and organization of Wiese’s book.
