Estufa Fria, or Cold Greenhouse, is a large greenhouse with three gardens in Edward VII Park, Lisbon, Portugal. It opened in 1933, designed by architect Raul Carapinha, near an old basalt mine found after a nearby spring. In 1945, the site was remodeled with Edward VII Park by Francisco Keil do Amaral, adding an entrance porch, a lake, and a big visitor space called the ship. In 1975, Estufa Quente (Hot Greenhouse) and Estufa Doce (Sweet Greenhouse) opened, expanding the collection to tropical and equatorial plants. The original Estufa Fria closed on 29 April 2009 due to structural concerns and reopened in April 2011 after renovation. The complex covers about 1.5 hectares. The Cold Greenhouse is the largest part, about 8,100 square metres, with azaleas and camellias from around the world and no central heating—sunlight is regulated with wooden slats. Estufa Quente is about 3,000 square metres and hosts tropical plants such as coffee and mango trees. Estufa Doce contains cacti and other succulents like aloe. The grounds feature lakes, waterfalls, and sculptures by notable Portuguese artists like Domingos de Castro Gentil Soares Branco, Leopoldo de Almeida, and Pedro Anjos Teixeira.
