Church of the Open Door
The Church of the Open Door is a non-denominational Christian church in Glendora, California. It began in 1915, founded by R. A. Torrey. In its early years, services were held in a 4,000-seat auditorium at Biola University in Los Angeles. Notable pastors included Peter Wiley Philpott (1929–1931) and J. Vernon McGee (1949–1970).
The church moved to Glendora in 1985. The original downtown Los Angeles building was demolished in 1988 after the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake caused extensive damage and made repairs too costly. One of the old church’s two "Jesus Saves" signs was moved by William Eugene Scott and now sits atop the Ace Hotel Los Angeles.
In 2015, David Anderson became pastor.
