1995 Shenzhen murders (also known as the "95" mega robbery-murder case) occurred from 1993 to 1994 in Bao'an District, Shenzhen. A gang of 16 people, led by Zhang Xiaojian and Chen Weixiang, killed 17 people and stole about 3 million yuan in cash and goods.

How they worked: They lured taxi drivers to quiet spots, killed them, and stole their cars and belongings. They even used women to help lure drivers, including Zhang’s girlfriend, by posing as people needing rides to parlors. In 1994, some members began dressing as police and stopping luxury vehicles to strangle drivers with nylon cords or wires.

The violence ended after a pursuit near Shenzhen Airport in June 1994 when Liu Yuxiang, a new member, was spotted and captured. Police then arrested most of the others in the following months.

The case drew nationwide attention, with as many as 20,000 people attending the court hearing in Shenzhen. In 1995, 14 of the 16 members were sentenced to death, while 2 were imprisoned.

A Hong Kong film, The Six Devil Women, released in 1996, was inspired by the events.
