Er Enish

Er Enish, also known as Oodarysh, is a traditional Kyrgyz sport of wrestling on horseback. Riders and horses work together, so having a strong, well-behaved horse is just as important as the rider. The sport is part of the World Nomad Games.

Competitors must be at least 19 years old and medically cleared; 18-year-olds can compete if they are in excellent physical condition. There are three weight classes: up to 70 kg, 70–90 kg, and over 90 kg.

Matches take place on flat ground inside a 30-meter circle, overseen by a mounted referee. Participants wear outfits that leave the upper body bare. A bout lasts about six minutes, unless someone is hurt. If an injury occurs, there is a 2-minute medical break; if the wrestler cannot continue after that, the opponent wins.

The referee awards points for holds and faults. The wrestler with more points wins; if tied, there is an extra 2-minute overtime round. Some moves are not allowed, such as kicks, punches, whipping, holding the face or hair, and twisting fingers. Because holds can be strong, safety is closely watched by the referee.

Er Enish can also be played as a team event, where the combined team score decides rankings.

The sport is mentioned in the Epic of Manas, reflecting its cultural significance in Kyrgyzstan.
