El Peyote Asesino is a Uruguayan rock band formed in 1994 in Montevideo. They mix heavy metal, funk, and rap, which was unusual for Uruguay at the time.

Current and key past members include Fernando Santullo (L. Mental) and Carlos Casacuberta on vocals, Daniel Benia on bass, Juan Campodónico on guitar, Pepe Canedo on drums, Bruno Tortorella on keyboards, Matías Rada on guitar; past members include Roberto Rodino and Luciano Supervielle.

They released their first album, El Peyote Asesino, in 1995 on Orfeo. It became the best-selling Uruguayan rock album in early 1996, helped by the popular video for “L. Mental.” The title track also charted high on X FM.

In 1997–1998 they recorded Terraja in Los Angeles, released on August 31, 1998 through Universal Music Group. Terraja kept rap-metal energy but experimented with electronic music, soul, milonga, candombe, and tango. The song “Mal de la Cabeza” was especially popular. About a year after Terraja, the band briefly split up.

They resurfaced for live shows in the 2009 Pilsen Rock festival, but did not release new studio material at that time. In 2016 they performed at the Teatro de Verano with Matías Rada playing guitar and Bruno Tortorella on keyboards, filling in for health reasons of Casacuberta. Since 2016, Rada and Tortorella have been stable members.

Their third album, Serial, was released on November 5, 2021. It was recorded in 2019–2020 in Montevideo and produced by Juan Campodónico. Producer Gustavo Santaolalla called Serial the band’s best work. Ahead of the album, they released the single “Vos No Me Llamaste,” and in 2021 also released “La Tumba de los Crá” and “Es lo que Hay.”
