Edgton is a small village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. It’s a quiet, rural place south of the River Onny, about 4 miles west of Craven Arms. Nearby towns include Bishop’s Castle, Clun and Church Stretton, with Lydbury North a few miles to the west. The village has three farms and around 20 houses. Today it has few services: the school (built in 1872) has closed and is now a pottery, and the shop and pub have also shut.

St Michael’s Church dates from the early 13th century. It was rebuilt in 1895–96 and is a Grade II listed building. Because the population is small, Edgton has a parish meeting instead of a parish council. The name Edgton is thought to mean “settlement on a hill with an edge.”

In 1993 the central part of the village was designated a conservation area. Edgton lies within the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an area of woods, fields and hedges. Many buildings and landmarks in the conservation area are Grade II listed to protect them.

Historically, Edgton was linked to Wenlock Priory and sits near the old London-to-Bishop’s Castle coaching route, evidenced by milestones at Edgton Cross showing London 154 miles away and Bishop’s Castle 5 miles away.
