Diocese of Vyatka
The Diocese of Vyatka and Slobodskoy (Vyatskaya eparhiya) is part of the Russian Orthodox Church and covers the entire Kirov Oblast in Russia. Its main church is the Assumption Cathedral at the Tryphon Monastery in Kirov, which serves as the diocese’s Mother Church. The diocese is led by Archbishop Mark (Tuzhikov) and is under the Moscow Patriarchate.
History and structure: It was founded in 1656 as the Diocese of Vyatka and Great Perm. In 1799, after Great Perm became a separate diocese, it was renamed Vyatka and Slobodskoy. The diocese has two vicariates: Sarapul (established 1868) and Glazov (1889).
Today the diocese includes about 175 parishes and 175 churches, serving roughly 1.39 million people over an area of about 120,400 square kilometers. Website: vyatskaya-eparhia.ru.
