Edelstal
Edelstal is a small Austrian town in Burgenland, in the Neusiedl am See district. About 750 people live there, and the area is around 6 square kilometers. A Roman Catholic church dating from 1740 is dedicated to Saint Stephen. The nearby Römerquelle mineral water has been bottled since 1890. Historically, Edelstal sits near a 9th‑century Avar settlement and close to the Roman fortress Carnuntum. It was destroyed by the Turks in 1529 and 1683. Before the Treaty of Trianon, it belonged to Hungary, in the Rajka district of Moson county. In 1785 the List (later Liszt) family moved from Edelstal to Kittsee, and Adam Liszt, Franz Liszt’s father, was born here. The town council has 13 seats: SPÖ 7, ÖVP 5, FPÖ 1.
