Conejo Valley Unified School District
Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) is a public school district in Ventura County, California. It serves the Conejo Valley area, including Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and nearby communities such as Casa Conejo, Lake Sherwood, and Ventu Park.
The district was formed in 1974 when three local districts merged, combining two elementary districts and the eastern part of the Oxnard Union High School District. CVUSD covers kindergarten through 12th grade and currently serves about 17,000 students, with roughly 800 teachers and a student-teacher ratio of about 22 to 1. The district is led by Superintendent Mark W. McLaughlin.
CVUSD includes several notable schools and achievements:
- Los Cerritos Middle School was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2004. Its Jazz Band became the first Ventura County school band to perform at the Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago in 2010, a prestigious honor.
- Sequoia Middle School was named a California Distinguished School in 2011 and is an International Baccalaureate Candidate School.
