Ed Kavanagh (born December 1954) is a Canadian writer and musician living in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. He also works as a theatre director, actor, and university lecturer. His first novel, The Confessions of Nipper Mooney, won the 2002 Newfoundland Book Award.

Born in St. John’s, he grew up in Kilbride. He earned a B.A. (Hons) in English and a B.Ed. from Memorial University, a B.A. in Music from Carleton University, and an M.A. in English and Creative Writing from the University of New Brunswick. As a harpist, he has released three CDs: On Strings of Light: Christmas Melodies Performed on Celtic Harp; One Star Awake; and Weaving the Wind. He has taught creative writing at Memorial University and the University of New Brunswick, and he served as president of the Writers Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador.
