Ecton railway station
Ecton railway station was on the Leek and Manifold Light Railway in Staffordshire, England. It served the small hamlet of Ecton and the village of Warslow. The station opened on 29 June 1904 and had one platform. It closed on 12 March 1934.
In 1920, Ecton Creamery opened nearby, and the line was used to carry Stilton cheese from the factory. A 1922 map shows a branch line to the cheese factory. Milk was moved by road from 1932, which reduced the railway’s income.
In 1937, the owner, London, Midland and Scottish Railway, gave the track bed to Staffordshire County Council to create a public right of way. This was one of the first such transfers in Britain. Today, the old line is part of the Manifold Way, a path for walking and cycling between Hulme End and Waterhouses.
