East Tempe is an unincorporated community in west-central Polk County, Texas. It sits along Farm to Market Road 350, about 75 miles north of Houston and near the city of Livingston. The name comes from East Tempe Creek that flows through the area.

Settlement began around 1860 with farming. A sawmill opened about 1880. In 1908 the Beaumont and Great Northern Railway reached East Tempe, making it a flag stop connected to Livingston and Trinity. The railroad stopped operating in 1949. The town had about 100 residents in 1990 and roughly 200 in 2000.
