Drummoyne is a suburb in Sydney’s Inner West, located about 6 kilometres west of the city’s centre. It sits on a peninsula between Iron Cove and Five Dock Bay, giving it great waterfront views and easy access to the Parramatta River. The area is mostly residential with some shops and businesses along Victoria Road and Lyons Road, and it borders Five Dock and Abbotsford.

History and name: In 1853, William Wright bought land in the area and built Drummoyne House, naming the place Drummoyne Park after his family home in Scotland. The Gaelic meaning is “flat-topped ridge.” The suburb has several heritage-listed sites.

Population and culture: In 2021, about 12,000 people lived in Drummoyne. The community is mainly Australian-born, with English and Italian heritage common among residents. English is the dominant language at home. The largest religious groups are No Religion, Catholic, and Anglican. The area is relatively affluent, with a higher median household income than the national average.

Government: Drummoyne is part of the City of Canada Bay, created in 2000. It lies in the NSW state electorate of Drummoyne and the federal division of Reid.

Transport: Victoria Road runs through the heart of Drummoyne, with numerous bus services. Regular ferries operate from Drummoyne Wharf to the Parramatta–City route.

Amenities and recreation: The main shopping strip is along Victoria and Lyons Roads, including The Party People store and Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre. The Canada Bay Civic Centre is the local government hub. Drummoyne is home to the Drummoyne Rowing Club (founded in 1919) and Drummoyne Oval, a large sports ground that hosts rugby, cricket, and other events. The Drummoyne Olympic Pool sits by Iron Cove, and the Bay Run is a popular route for runners and walkers.
