Digital integration means different devices can read and use each other’s data using a common format. It also refers to organizations using digital tech to deliver relevant and valuable products and services, and to government collaboration across agencies and levels.

It’s a major trend in today’s knowledge-based world. A simple example is syncing a phone calendar with an online calendar.

In business, digital integration helps design and manufacturing processes work together, often boosting productivity by about 30–45% when using digital tools.

In buildings, digital integration connects smart services like security, lighting, HVAC, and fire detection. Many systems use different communication languages, so interface software translates them to a common standard. Some control systems now use standard ports such as BACnet, LonTalk, or Ethernet, while others connect to their own networks.
