It broadcasts on 98.4 FM and has repeaters in Western Kenya (93.0), Nakuru (98.5), Mombasa (98.4), Nyeri (98.5), and Meru (103.9). Launched in 1996 after Kenya’s airwaves were liberalized, it became the second FM station after Metro FM and has grown to reach Nairobi, Mombasa, Western Kenya, and international listeners online. The station targets middle- and upper-class audiences and plays a mix of hip hop, R&B, rock, neo-soul, world music, jazz, techno, and dance. A notable moment in its history was Barack Obama’s one-on-one interview with Capital FM during his 2015 Kenya visit. Capital FM is owned by the estate of late Chris Kirubi, a prominent Kenyan businessman, and is known as the home of nurturing radio talent, having launched many top presenters. Capital Digital Media, a division of Capital FM, handles online presence, digital advertising, web development, video production, and social media strategy.
