Development Authority of the North Country (DANC) is a New York State public-benefit corporation created in 1985. It was formed to develop and manage infrastructure to support Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division and to serve Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

DANC is based in Watertown, NY. It owns and runs revenue-generating facilities, including water and wastewater systems, a regional fiber optic network, and a regional landfill. It also runs business and housing loan programs to help local growth and provides fee-based technical services to municipalities, such as consolidation studies, GIS hosting, and wastewater facility management.

The organization is guided by a 13-member unpaid board. The executive director leads the management team; names associated with this role include James W. Wright and Carl E. Farone Jr.

In 2017, DANC had operating expenses of $26.48 million, debt of $12.94 million, and about 87 staff. That year its website was redesigned to make GIS data and municipal studies easier to access.

The landfill methane gas project generates up to 4.8 MW of electricity, operated by Innovative Energy Systems, which sells power to the NYISO wholesale market.
