Desiree Schell
Desiree Schell is a Canadian radio host, lecturer, labor organizer, and blogger who promotes scientific skepticism and critical thinking. Since 2008, she has worked to bring skeptical ideas to the public. She hosts the Canadian call‑in show and podcast Science for the People and is a speaker for the Center for Inquiry (CFI). She also hosts Skeptically Speaking, a live radio program that began in 2009 in Edmonton and is streamed online and rebroadcast widely.
Schell is known for her activism and outreach. She creates teaching materials for activists and helped write The Skeptical Activism Campaign Manual. She supports single‑issue campaigns with clear goals and measurable results, and she believes skepticism should be inclusive and reach a broad audience. She has spoken at many events, including The Amazing Meeting in 2011, SkeptiCamp Alberta, SkepchickCon, Imagine No Religion 2, and Women in Secularism 2. She advises activists to know their audience, plan carefully, and build alliances.
In addition to her radio work, Schell is an International Judge for 60 Second Science, encouraging students to submit short science videos. Science for the People features interviews with leading skeptics and scientists and explores how science and skepticism relate to social issues.
