Depressizona
Depressizona is a genus of very small sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Scissurelloidea. It is the only genus in the family Depressizonidae.
Taxonomic history
- Described in 2003 as the subfamily Depressizoninae by Geiger.
- In 2005, some classifications treated it as a synonym of Scissurellinae in the family Scissurellidae.
- In 2009, after the description of a second species, Depressizona axiosculpta, it was recognized again as its own family, Depressizonidae.
Species
The genus contains two species: Depressizona exorum (the type species) and Depressizona axiosculpta.
Shell shape
The shells are calyptraeiform, meaning they have a hat-like shape.
