The Bicton Arena International 5* (sponsored as the Chedington Bicton Park 5* Horse Trials) was held in 2021 as a one-off replacement for the Burghley Horse Trials after COVID cancelled the UK 5* events. The event took place at Bicton Arena in Devon, England, a venue that already hosts a CCI 4* competition. The 5* course, designed by Captain Mark Phillips, proved very challenging: 12 riders retired or were eliminated on cross-country, only two finished the cross-country phase inside the time, and Oliver Townend finished inside the time but incurred 11 jumping penalties. 32 riders started and 18 finished. Gemma Tattersall won riding Chilli Knight.
