Denmark at the 1896 Summer Olympics
The Games were held in Athens from April 6 to April 15, 1896. Denmark sent three athletes who competed in five sports and 12 events. They won six medals in total: one gold, two silvers, and three bronzes, finishing ninth in the medal table.
The Danish team consisted of Viggo Jensen, Holger Nielsen, and Eugen Schmidt; Schmidt did not win any medals. Jensen and Nielsen won all of Denmark’s medals. Jensen earned a gold in the two-handed weightlifting event, a silver in the one-handed lift, and a bronze in shooting. Nielsen won a silver in pistol shooting and two bronze medals—one in fencing and one in shooting. Shooting and weightlifting were Denmark’s strongest sports that year. Denmark had 15 entries across 12 events.
