David Hernandez (poet)
David Hernandez (born 1971 in Burbank, California) is an American poet and novelist. He won the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry Award in 2005 and a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship in 2011. His poems have appeared in many journals, including FIELD, The Threepenny Review, Ploughshares, Kenyon Review, The Missouri Review, The Southern Review, and Poetry Daily; his drawings have appeared in Indiana Review. He is the son of Jaime A. Hernandez, who came from Colombia, and Nancy Cornejo, from Chile. He comes from the Gamboa family, a long line of poets dating back to the 1870s, and the 2008 book Los Gamboa: una Dinastía de Poetas features five of his poems translated into Spanish by Hugo Cuevas-Mohr. Hernandez teaches poetry at California State University, Long Beach, and creative writing at California State University, Fullerton, and lives in Long Beach, California.
