Dalbrae Academy
Dalbrae Academy is a high school in Mabou, Nova Scotia, Canada. It serves about 261 students in grades 9 to 12. The school is part of the Strait Regional School Board. The principal is Carol Smith and the vice principal is Cindy MacDonald. Dalbrae opened in 2000 after the government decided to close several local schools and combine them into new ones, including Whycocomagh Education Centre and Bayview Education Centre. The school is part of the Allan J. MacEachen International Academic and Cultural Centre with Strathspey Place.
The name Dalbrae comes from Scottish Gaelic words meaning “meeting place on the hill.” The school has a track at the back of the building. The colors are blue, red and gold, and the mascot is the Dragon. The motto is “Intelligence, Integrity, Intensity.” The school teaches in English. The website is www.dalbrae.ednet.ns.ca.
Notable achievements:
- 2006-2007: Girls Basketball won the NSSAF Division 3 Provincial Championship, going undefeated in division play.
- 2008-2009: The Dalbrae ROV team won the international ROV competition in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.
- 2009-2010: Dalbrae hosted a weekly sketch comedy show, “Cut Outs and Play House,” with proceeds to Haiti relief efforts.
- Table Tennis: Won the Regional Banner three years in a row; placed third in provincials in 2009 and fourth in 2010 and 2011.
