R. B. Nunnery

R. B. Nunnery was an American football offensive tackle who played in the AFL. He was born on December 28, 1933, in McComb, Mississippi, and died on May 18, 1988, in Metairie, Louisiana, at age 54.

He went to Summit High School in Summit, Mississippi, and played college football at Southwest Mississippi Junior College (where he is in the Hall of Fame) and at LSU from 1954 to 1955, earning a degree in physical education.

Nunnery was drafted in 1956 by the Detroit Lions in the 12th round (134th overall). He was released by the Lions on September 18, 1956. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 6, 1957, but was released later that year. He joined the Dallas Texans of the AFL in 1960 and appeared in six games. After that season he became a free agent and later signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 1962, but was released that year.

After football, Nunnery ran Nunnery's Men's Wear in McComb for 25 years. He died of a heart attack at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana.
