Credito Valtellinese
Credito Valtellinese, known as Creval, was an Italian bank based in Sondrio, Lombardy. It was founded in 1908 as Banca Piccolo Credito Valtellinese and grew through acquisitions across Northern Italy and Sicily.
Creval had a large branch network: 363 in Northern Italy, 40 in Marche and Umbria, and 133 in Sicily (through Credito Siciliano). In 2016, it demutualized from a cooperative to a joint‑stock company under Italian law, with shareholders receiving €0.4747 per share and a 10‑for‑1 share consolidation.
In 2020, Creval reported a net income of €113.2 million, with assets of €23.882 billion and equity of €1.774 billion. The group employed about 3,521 people and owned several subsidiaries, including Credito Siciliano (about 99%), Global Assicurazioni (60%), Global Broker (51%), and Stelline Real Estate (100%).
Creval was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and moved between FTSE Italia Mid Cap and Small Cap indices during its public life.
In 2021, Crédit Agricole Italia acquired Creval, buying 91.17% of the shares for €855 million and completing a full takeover, which led to delisting from the stock exchange on 4 June 2021. Since then, Creval has been part of Crédit Agricole Italia. The bank’s official site is www.gruppocreval.com.
