Walnut–Chancellor Historic District
Walnut–Chancellor Historic District is a national historic district in the Rittenhouse Square West area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Covering about 5 acres, it includes 51 contributing buildings located one block east of Rittenhouse Square. The district features four-and-a-half to five-story tall Italianate brick residences from the 1860s and 1870s, some with mansard roofs and dormers, as well as nineteenth-century carriage houses. Gothic, Italianate, and Colonial Revival styles are present. The Thomas Hockley House (1875), designed by architect Frank Furness, is also in the district. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1980.
