Cornelis Schrevel
Cornelis Schrevel (baptized 13 April 1608 – 1664) was a Dutch physician and scholar from Haarlem. He studied medicine at Leiden University and, in 1642, succeeded his father Theodorus Schrevelius as head of Leiden’s college faculty. Schrevel published a Latin–Greek lexicon and edited many classical authors, including a notable edition of Curtius Rufus that was owned by Thomas Jefferson. Among his other works is the edition “Six Authors of the Historia Augusta” (Leiden, 1661). He died in Leiden. His Lexicon appeared in many editions across several languages, lasting into the early nineteenth century; a 1663 expansion was edited by Joseph Hill.
