Copa Mercosur was a South American club football competition held from 1998 to 2001. It featured 20 top clubs from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile and was organized by CONMEBOL. The tournament aimed to boost TV money and, together with Copa Merconorte, replace the older Copa CONMEBOL.

Format and games
- 20 teams were divided into five groups of four. Each group played two-legged matches.
- Group winners and the best three runners-up advanced to the quarterfinals, followed by two-legged knockout rounds.
- Finals were two-legged in 1999 and 2001, and three-legged in 1998 and 2000.

Winners
- Palmeiras, Flamengo, Vasco da Gama (Brazil) and San Lorenzo (Argentina) each won one title. No team won more than once.

After 2001 both Copa Mercosur and Copa Merconorte were discontinued. There were plans for a Copa Pan-Americana to include clubs from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, but it never happened. Instead, CONMEBOL created the Copa Sudamericana, which began in 2002 and continues today. The finals of Copa Mercosur were held at five different venues during its short history.
