Philippine half-centavo coin
The Philippine half-centavo (½¢) was a bronze coin worth 0.005 Philippine pesos, 17.5 mm in diameter with a plain edge. It was minted from 1904 to 1908 during US rule. The obverse features a man seated beside an anvil, holding a hammer, with Mount Mayon in the background and the year 1904.
The reverse shows the seal of the United States of America. The design, by Filipino sculptor Melecio Figueroa, includes the names Filipinas and United States of America. The US Mint in Philadelphia produced bronze half-centavos in 1903–1904 for circulation. The coin was withdrawn because Filipinos rejected its low value, and after 1908 all remaining coins were melted.
