Dumbo's Circus
Dumbo's Circus is a live-action puppet TV show that aired on The Disney Channel from May 6, 1985 to May 25, 1986, with reruns until February 28, 1997. The series stars a grown-up, speaking Dumbo traveling with a troupe of human-sized puppet performers who travel in a wagon pulled through the air, putting on a “greatest little show on earth” from town to town. None of the other characters come from the original Dumbo film.
The cast includes Patty Maloney, Mark Sawyer, Van Snowden, Joe Giamalava, Sharon Baird, Norman Merrill, Jr., Caleb Chung, and Ron Mangham, with voices by Katie Leigh, Jim Cummings, Walker Edmiston, Ron Gans, Patricia Parris, Will Ryan, and Hal Smith. The opening theme is “Dumbo's Circus” and the ending theme is “Gotta Fly,” both by Phil Baron, with music by John Debney. Each 30-minute episode features different acts, and Lionel introduces the side-show acts.
The show was produced by Left Coast Television and Walt Disney Pictures Television for The Disney Channel. A wagon from the show later appeared at the Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour in Florida, and some audience puppets were reused for The Mother Goose Video Treasury.
