Cochabamba Fault Zone

The Cochabamba Fault Zone is a group of left‑lateral faults near the city of Cochabamba in the Bolivian Andes. It runs roughly east‑southeast. The movement is related to a bend in the Andes from northwest to north–south at this latitude. Crustal compression at the Arica Elbow causes part of the Bolivian thrust belt to slide sideways to relieve the squeeze along the elbow axis.
