Chukyo Metropolis proposal

Chukyo Metropolis is a proposal to turn Aichi Prefecture into a single metropolis. In 2012, Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura formed the Chukyo Ishin no Kai (Chukyo Metropolitan Area Renewal Association) to push the idea. One version would also include Gifu Prefecture.

If adopted, Nagoya City would be dissolved and its area reorganized into wards under a central metropolitan government. The plan has similarities to changes seen in Tokyo's past and to proposals for reorganizing Osaka.
