Chris Newman (sound engineer)
Chris Newman (February 17, 1940 – February 3, 2025) was an American sound mixer and director. Born in New York City, he spent his career from 1966 to 2025 working on major films, including The Godfather, Amadeus, The Exorcist, The Silence of the Lambs, and The English Patient. He won three Academy Awards for Best Sound and received five additional nominations. He lived in New Jersey and taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City for many years. Newman died on February 3, 2025, at age 84; his name was listed in the In Memoriam at the 97th Academy Awards.
