Humberto Costa (Salvadoran politician)

Humberto Costa (born September 2, 1906, in Santa Ana) was a Salvadoran doctor and politician. He served as a civilian member of El Salvador's ruling junta from 1948 to 1950 and later became president of the Supreme Court until the 1956 elections. In 1956 he was elected Vice President of El Salvador as the running mate of President José María Lemus, representing the Revolutionary Party of Democratic Unification (PRUD). He also served as Minister of Finance from 1956 to 1959 and was acting president from March 9 to March 31, 1959, during Lemus's absence. After the 1960 coup d'état, Costa retired from politics and returned to his medical work.
