The race was held on 19 February 1967 at Warwick Farm Raceway in Sydney. It covered 45 laps on a 3.621 km (2.25 mi) circuit, a total distance of 162.945 km (101.25 mi). The weather was sunny. It was the 32nd Australian Grand Prix and the fourth round of the Tasman Series, with 15 cars competing under Australian National Formula and Australian 1½ Litre Formula rules.
Pole position went to Jackie Stewart in a BRM P261, with a time of 1 minute 30.8 seconds. The fastest lap of the race was also by Stewart, at 1 minute 31.4 seconds.
The podium finishes were:
- 1st: Jackie Stewart (BRM)
- 2nd: Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax)
- 3rd: Frank Gardner (Repco Brabham-Climax)
Jack Brabham finished fourth in his Repco Brabham BT23A. In his victory speech, New South Wales Governor Sir Roden Cutler called the 1967 AGP the “Scottish Grand Prix” because Stewart and Clark finished first and second.
