There are about 15,000–25,000 Chinese residents (2013). Most live in Brazzaville and are part of the overseas Chinese community. Many Chinese engineering firms work in Congo on major infrastructure projects and hire Chinese construction workers as part of the workforce. In March 2012, at a Beijing Construction Engineering Group site in Brazzaville, a fire at a nearby munitions depot caused a blast that killed six Chinese workers and injured dozens, and damaged the surrounding neighborhood.
