Chinese frigate Yueyang
Yueyang (575) is a Type 054A frigate of China's People's Liberation Army Navy. Built in Shanghai, she was laid down in June 2010, launched on May 10, 2012, and commissioned on May 3, 2013. She displaces about 4,050 tonnes, is 134 meters long, and can reach around 27 knots. Her range is roughly 8,000 nautical miles, and she carries a crew of about 165.
Yueyang’s weapons include a 76 mm dual‑purpose gun, two sets of four C‑803 anti‑ship missiles, and a 32‑cell vertical‑launch system carrying HQ‑16 medium‑range air‑defense missiles (range up to about 50 km). For surface warfare, she has anti‑ship/land‑attack missiles in two quad launchers. Close‑in defense is provided by two Type 730 CIWS guns. She also has anti‑submarine weapons, including torpedo tubes, anti‑submarine rockets, and decoy launchers, plus a hangar for one helicopter (a Kamov Ka‑28 or Harbin Z‑9).
Yueyang is equipped with a range of radars, fire‑control systems, sonar, data links, and satellite communications to detect targets, guide missiles, and share information with other ships. She is identified by pennant number 575.
In 2014, Yueyang participated in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, sailing from Sanya to Hawaii as part of a multinational task force and taking part in long‑duration operations with ships from many countries. On March 31, 2016, Yueyang intercepted the U.S. guided‑missile cruiser Chancellorsville near Huangyan Island in the South China Sea.
