Chesapeake Ranch Estates-Drum Point, Maryland
Chesapeake Ranch Estates-Drum Point was a census-designated place in Calvert County, Maryland, used for the 2000 U.S. census. It had 11,503 residents in 3,865 households, spanning 6.4 square miles (6.0 land and 0.4 water). The population density was about 1,905 people per square mile.
The area was about 85.5% White, 10.5% African American, and had small percentages of other races, with 2.4% Hispanic or Latino of any race. About 49% of households had children under 18; 63.4% were married couples, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband, and 21.3% were non-families. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.33. The median age was 32 years. The median household income was $56,904, and the median family income was $60,011; per capita income was $21,428. About 4.3% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.7% of those under 18 and 3.7% of those 65 or older.
The CDP is located near Solomons, Calvert Cliffs State Park and fossil grounds, the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, and the Dominion Cove Point LNG terminal. In 2010, the area was split into two separate CDPs: Chesapeake Ranch Estates and Drum Point.
