Channel 9 (Microsoft)

Channel 9 was a Microsoft site for hosting videos and podcasts made by Microsoft employees. It started in April 2004 and was named after an airline’s audio channel that lets you hear cockpit conversations, reflecting its focus on developer talks rather than official statements from Microsoft leaders. The site offered a cheaper way for customers and outside developers to hear from Microsoft staff and included interviews with people like Bill Gates, Erik Meijer, and Mark Russinovich.

In November 2021, Microsoft announced that Channel 9 would be merged into Microsoft Learn, a process completed on December 1, 2021. The original site became inactive, though past videos remained accessible there. By its final form, Channel 9 was not a community site and did not host user-generated content. Previously, it did host discussion forums and a FlexWiki-based wiki used to give feedback to Microsoft teams, such as the Internet Explorer team.
