Central American Championships in Athletics
Central American Championships in Athletics
The Central American Championships in Athletics is a senior track and field competition for athletes from the CADICA member associations (the Central American Isthmus Athletics Confederation). It brings together athletes from Central American countries to compete and to determine an overall team winner as well as individual event champions.
Team ranking
Teams earn points based on how their athletes place in events. The scoring has changed over time:
- Early years: points were awarded to the top 6 finishers (6 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, down to 1 for 6th).
- 1970s to around 2008: top 8 finishers scored (9 for 1st, 7 for 2nd, decreasing to 1 for 8th).
- Since 2009: only the top 4 places score (5 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd, 1 for 4th). There are separate team rankings for men and women.
