Ipomoea macrorhiza is a rare tuberous morning glory native to the southeastern United States. It grows as a vigorous vine with stems that can reach up to about 20 feet long and has large tuberous roots. The flowers are white and pink and open at night. Leaves vary in shape from triangular to palmate. Each seed capsule holds 3–5 seeds that are hairy. The plant is rare and not widely cultivated, but its roots are edible and were used by Native Americans as a food source. It is also grown for its attractive flowers.
