Castanopsis clemensii
Castanopsis clemensii is a tree in the beech family (Fagaceae). It is named after American chaplain and plant collector Joseph Clemens. The tree can reach about 30 meters tall, with a trunk up to 50 cm in diameter. Its yellowish-white bark can be smooth or cracked, with small pores (lenticels). Leaves are leathery and up to 12 cm long. The nuts are ellipsoid and up to 2 cm long. Castanopsis clemensii is endemic to Borneo, where it grows in lower montane forests up to 1,300 meters above sea level. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1).
