Céčka

Céčka were plastic toys from Czechoslovakia that were popular in the 1980s and 1990s. They are shaped like the letter C and could be linked together to form chains. People first tried to use them as buckles for women’s clothes, but that didn’t work, and later as parts of door hangings, which also didn’t catch on. The real appeal came from children, sparking a “Céčka fever,” and from 1984 Céčka became scarce and highly valued by kids. They could be used in simple games, such as a coin-throwing style game, and they inspired Michal David’s song “Céčka, sbírá céčka.” They’re also mentioned in Slávek Janoušek’s song “Pochodové cvičení.”
