Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec
Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) is a Baptist Christian denomination in central Canada. Its headquarters are in Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario. CBOQ is connected with Canadian Baptist Ministries and is a member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and the Canadian Council of Churches.
The organization began in 1880 as the Baptist Union of Canada and was renamed in 1888 to the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec (BCOQ). In 1927, during the Fundamentalist–Modernist Controversy, 77 churches were expelled and formed what would become the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada in 1953. In 1944, CBOQ joined with other unions to form the Canadian Baptist Federation, which was renamed in 2008 to Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec to align with other Canadian Baptist groups.
CBOQ meets annually at Assembly to elect officers, discuss issues, and plan workshops. Its mission is to equip churches and leaders to engage in God’s mission in their communities. The Canadian Baptist is its monthly e-newsletter and annual magazine. The affiliated seminary is McMaster Divinity College at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. CBOQ provides resources, workshops, prayer, and gatherings, and runs a grant program to support ministries that help the marginalized.
As of 2025, CBOQ has 295 churches and over 28,000 members. It holds to a Baptist confession of faith and is a member of Canadian Baptist Ministries, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, and the Canadian Council of Churches.
