Cadmium sulfite
Cadmium sulfite
Cadmium sulfite is an inorganic compound with the formula CdO3S, the cadmium salt of sulfurous acid. It can form hydrates, the most common being the dihydrate CdO3S·2H2O, and it crystallizes from water solutions. The compound is very slightly soluble in water and decomposes rather than melting. Like many cadmium compounds, it is toxic to the liver and reproductive system, so it should be handled with care. Cadmium sulfite has been used to make cadmium oxide nanoparticles by heating a cadmium sulfite emulsion. Related compound: cadmium sulfate.
