CRN International
CRN International is a radio marketing and promotions company based in Hamden, Connecticut. Since its founding in 1973, it has developed programs like two-minute vignettes, contests, celebrity endorsements, retail campaigns, and digital/social media integration. Its clients have included Microsoft, Kraft, Chrysler, Johnson & Johnson, Hershey Foods, Campbell Soup, Apple, the Navy, Unilever, PepsiCo, Nextel, and more. The firm has won industry awards, including MediaWeek’s 2009 Media Plan of the Year for Local Television and Cable, and was listed among Inc. Magazine’s 500 fastest-growing private companies in 1985 and 1986. Founders Barry Berman and S. Richard Kalt were inducted into the Connecticut Business Hall Of Fame in 2006.
CRN traces its roots to the Connecticut Radio Network, founded by Berman, which provided news, sports, weather and special programming for 55 Connecticut stations. It produced New England Ski Watch, a ski report funded by Maxwell House Coffee that helped fund CRN’s national expansion. CRN ended its daily Connecticut news service on June 9, 2017. By 1981 CRN International was producing programming in 45 states; by 2000 campaigns reached all 50 states, plus Canada and Europe.
