1964 United States Senate election in Nevada
On November 3, 1964, Nevada voters chose their U.S. senator. Incumbent Democrat Howard Cannon won re-election to a second term, narrowly defeating Republican Paul Laxalt by 48 votes. Cannon received 67,336 votes (50.02%), while Laxalt received 67,288 votes (49.98%). In the same election, Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson carried Nevada against Barry Goldwater, but the Senate race remained extremely close. Cannon’s victory was one of the closest in U.S. Senate history.
