Burnaby Mountain is a small, forested hill in Burnaby, British Columbia. It rises about 370 meters above sea level and looks over Burrard Inlet. The mountain hosts Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus, the Discovery Park research community, the BC Hydro System Control Tower, and a neighborhood with shops called UniverCity.

In 1995, part of the land was turned into Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area to protect the area.

Wildlife and plants flourish here. Deer, raccoons, and coyotes roam the mountain, and black bears sometimes visit. Birds like woodpeckers, northern flickers, Steller’s jays, great blue herons, barred owls, great horned owls, and occasionally bald eagles can be seen.

Centennial Park on the mountain has a western viewpoint where you can see toward downtown Vancouver, and you may glimpse the annual Celebration of Light fireworks on English Bay.

The mountain is popular for biking, with trails of different difficulty. Easy trails include Sidebandit, longer and tougher Mel’s, and two hard runs called Nicoles and Gearjammer.

In winter, higher parts often get snow while nearby areas stay rainy. People enjoy tobogganing in Centennial Park when there’s snow.

There are Ainu-style totem carvings in the park to honor Burnaby’s sister city Kushiro, Japan, and a large formal rose garden.
