Budhpur, Purulia
Budhpur is a small village in the Manbazar I block of Purulia district, West Bengal, India. It sits on the north bank of the Kangsabati river, about 6 km north of Manbazar town and 11 km south of Pakbirra. The area is part of the eastern, mostly rural region on the edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau.
In 2011, Budhpur had a population of 496 people (247 men and 249 women). There were 77 children aged 0–6. About 259 residents were literate, which is roughly 62% of the people over six years old.
A notable site in Budhpur is the Buddheswara Shiva temple, which has a large enclosure with a mandapa and four corner shrines. Today the main temple is mostly in ruins, with only some corner shrines remaining amid rubble. The temple is believed to date from the 12th or 13th century and shows nagara-style architecture. The original Shivalingam is no longer present, but some religious images have been found.
The area around Budhpur includes the Kangsabati Project Reservoir, with the upper part of the reservoir extending into Manbazar. The nearby Mukutmanipur Dam is located in a different district (Bankura).
