Bruce J. Avolio is an American scholar who studies leadership. He is a professor of management at the University of Washington, where he holds the Mark Pigott Chair in Business Strategic Leadership and serves as executive director of the Center for Leadership & Strategic Thinking in the Foster School of Business. He studied at the State University of New York at Oneonta and the University of Akron. His research focuses on leadership and management, and his 1981 thesis was "Age stereotypes in interview evaluation contexts." He is a fellow of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Society, the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the Gerontological Society of America.
